Thermal Clinic

Prerequisite: Para ll

Recommended: Mountain flying, maneuvers and Para lll)

Thermaling brings the adventure of paragliding to a whole new dimension.  What is thermaling? It is finding and staying in upward moving parcels of air.

Exploring your planet's atmosphere vertically, flying high, doing cross-country flights, all of these depend on a pilot's ability to understand and use thermals.

This clinic offers three information packed days that will improve your thermaling knowledge and understanding by two to three years.

Clinic includes:

Ten to sixteen hours of classroom time that will give you all the information you need to convert into practical thermaling skills.

"On ground" games and exercises used to simulate thermal flying and help build skills on the ground before getting into the air.

Flying thermal sites and conditions that are appropriate for each individual pilot and skill level. (weather permitting)

Thermaling should be approached cautiously and with a high degree of safety awareness. It is not something that can be done safely without a great deal of instruction.

Taking a maneuvers clinic before or soon after is highly recommended.
Thermal clinic is a prerequisite to
cross-country clinics.

Clinic Feedback

"Ken Hudonjorgensen's thermal clinic was a great experience.  It will be a great resource for me as I strive to develop my thermaling skills.  The instruction included valuable practical drills to prepare for properly handling, using and mapping thermals as well as technical instruction to help understand how thermals form and how we use them to fly.  More importantly we received invaluable instruction on flying in thermals safely and in addressing the all important questions of whether and when to fly under thermic conditions.  We learned patience and careful analysis from a very wise instructor.  Thanks Ken." -- David Nelson - Sandy, Utah

"Great visualization techniques!  I took the clinic to understand more about thermals and thermaling and these objectives were met effectively.  Strongly recommend this clinc to anyone who seeks flying at locations other than the Point.  Thanks Ken -- definitely worth the price of admission!" -- Jeff Silk - Orem Utah

"The thermal clinic was fantastic!  The ground school was superb.  The thermal skills and object lessons made a big difference in my learning curve.  They are great lessons.  You did well in developing them.

For me the clinic was "A+".  We had a small class.  The participants each brought their own expertise.  Great chemistry.  And after two solid days of instruction to have success thermaling ... It's as good as it gets!"

"... I went to the clinic knowing nothing and came out feeling confident about thermaling conditions, meteorology, wing behavior, mapping thermals, sites and flying methods to make the most of thermaling a paraglidier.  Above all, Ken stresses safety and good decision making.  Now I feel very good about practicing and honing my skills flying thermals.  This was time very well spent and it will increase the fun-factor in my flying."  Daryl Elam - Benson Arizona

"... It's an experience that can't be found elsewhere." - Greg Morgan - Park city UT
