Paragliding Ratings

Two-can Fly Paragliding is one of only 2 or 3 schools in the U.S. where you can achieve all ratings and skill levels.

Para I Rating

This Beginner rating is achieved with 2 to 3 lessons and means that you are a student under an instructor's care until your next rating .

Para II Rating -

This is our Novice Pilot rating and allows you to fly under specific limitations without an instructor present. Minimum of 8 hrs of ground school, 25 flights, and 5 flying days. This is a bare minimum and there are many more demonstration of skills and knowledge requirements. Two-can Fly Paragliding believes that these minimum requirements do not provide the skills necessary to be a safe and competent pilot. Our instruction takes you far beyond these requirements.

Para III Rating -

This is an Intermediate rating which  expands your flight operating limitations and gains you access to some more limited flying sites. The logged requirements are a minimum of 30 flying days, a total of at least 90 flights and a minimum of 20 hours of solo airtime plus other demonstrated skills and knowledge. (see USHGA pilot proficiency system guidelines booklet for the complete list).

Para IV Rating

Advanced rating gives one access to all flying sites unless they are privately limited. Logged requirements are: 250 flights, 5 flights at each of 5 different sites in intermediate level of which 3 were inland. A minimum of 80 flying days, at least 3, 1 hour flights in thermal lift without sustaining ridge lift. Flights must originate from at least 2 different sites in intermediate level conditions. At least 1, 1 hour flight in ridge lift without sustaining thermal lift. A min of 75 hours total airtime, with no more than 25 of these hours to be tandem.  Of these 75 hours, 25 must be in thermal lift with no more than 10 of these 25 hours to be tandem flights. A minimum of 5 different canopies plus other skills and knowledge. (see USHGA pilot proficiency system guidelines booklet for the complete list).

Para V Rating
